Kristin Ireland stepped into healthcare at the age of 18 as an EMT in the city of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She has always understood that there is more than one way to accomplish a patient care goal and had a visceral need to understand the national standards of care. Her ethical and moral obligation to protect a patient under her care—to keep them as safe as she could—fueled her fire to rise into research. In 2019, she received an Associate in Respiratory Therapy. After working in a hospital setting, where understanding a patient’s lifestyle is more than snippets of information between retrieving demographics, Kristin affirmed her belief that everyone has the right to breathe despite their habits and deserves the highest quality care with every tool available to the clinician. To advocate for her beliefs, Kristin sought higher education. She completed her BSRT program at Marian University (WI) and her MSRC at Loma Linda University. Kristin developed and led the first innovative online, on-demand lung ultrasound course for respiratory therapists as part of her capstone project. Her research project received significant interest within the respiratory care profession internationally, where she is now recognized for her willingness to advance the use of point-of-care ultrasound for respiratory therapists at the bedside. While in the MSRC program, she presented her Loma Linda University MSRC projects at national conferences such as the American College of Chest Physicians and the Society of Critical Care Medicine. She is also a peer reviewer for several peer review journals in the field of medical education and respiratory care.

Dr. Alismail is an associate professor of cardiopulmonary sciences and medicine at Loma Linda University (LLU). He is the program director for the Entry-Level BSRC and MSRC (post-professional) programs at LLU. Dr. Alismail serves on various committees in leading respiratory and pulmonary societies such as CHEST, ATS, CSRC, and CoBGRTE. He is an associate editor of BMC Pulmonary Medicine and BMC Medical Education journals. In addition, he is a peer reviewer of various peer-review journals. He has published numerous studies and presented at various conferences. He is named as a Fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians & American Association for Respiratory Care (AARC). His research interests are within the areas of Respiratory Care, Pulmonary Medicine, and Medical Education.
